Family summer film series set for UofL
Woody and Buzz are coming to Belknap Campus. May 27, 2010The University of Louisville will kick off the Cards Under the Stars outdoor film series June 11 with a screening of the 1995 animated film Toy Story and a large play area for kids. The event is free and open to the public.
Toy Story, which features the voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, tells the story of two rival toys - a cowboy and an astronaut action figure - who are lost and must find their way back to the little boy who owns them. Toy Story 3, the third film in the series of hits, screens nationwide on June 18.
Before the film, families may enjoy a range of free activities, including inflatables and face painting. Concessions will be sold, but people can bring coolers with food and non-alcoholic beverages.
'Cards Under the Stars' is a way to say thanks to our staff and faculty, said John Drees, associate vice president for communications and marketing. We also want to invite the community to campus, quite frankly, to show it off. Lots of people don't know what a park-like setting Belknap Campus is.
The film and play area will be on the lawn beside the Natural Science Building on the south end of campus. Seating will be on the grass. People who come should bring blankets or chairs for seating.
Activities for the general public will begin at 8 p.m. UofL employees, students and their families may arrive at 7:30 p.m. The movie will begin at sunset.
Parking is available in the lot next to the lawn (enter through the main entrance on Third Street) and behind the Speed School of Engineering (enter on Eastern Parkway).
Cards Under the Stars will continue in July and August, with films and dates to be announced later.
